Put on your walking shoes and bring your appetite, and escape the ordinary! Back for a fourth, much anticipated and highly successful event, the Aurora ArtWalk will take place Saturday, June 5th from 2-7pm in historic downtown Aurora.
The edgy, surprising, diverse and inspiring FREE event -- created and planned by artists -- will be filled with Fox Valley artisans painting, sculpting, drawing, reading, dancing, singing, strumming -- and, oh yes eating! The ArtWalk will be hosted by multiple venues on New York Street between Broadway (Rt. 25) and Lake Street (Rt. 31). Each site will feature a combination of music, performance arts, visual arts, exhibits and refreshments from host eateries on the ArtWalk route to highlight the diverse arts community in and around Aurora and to showcase the newly inhabited Restaurant Row.
The last three ArtWalks saw outstanding attendance with standing room only audiences bringing thousands of patrons and art lovers to downtown Aurora. In this latest version, the city’s up-and-coming “Restaurant Row” will be transformed into an art lover’s paradise, with guest artists showcased in four of Aurora’s hot new eateries including Comfort Zone Barbecue, Ballydoyle Irish Pub, La Quinta De Los Reyes and 33 West Trattoria, as well as the Paramount’s North Island Center, Hollywood Casino and the DeCleene Gallery Space. This visual, tactile and auditory event will also offer refreshments, entertainment and gorgeous art for sale spanning all mediums. Over 40 artists are expected to exhibit and perform.
The juried exhibition will award cash prizes for Best Visual Artist & Best Performance Artist. The judging panel will include Karen Kulzer and Bob Ferraris of Fox River Academy and T.D. Clark, professional musician and recording artist. Patrons attending the ArtWalk will be asked to participate in determining a People’s Choice Award for both Visual and Performance prizes. Ballots will be available at all venues.
This fourth event is sponsored by Aurora Downtown, the Hollywood Casino and 95.9 The River in conjunction with the Aurora Area CVB and the Cultural Creatives (a group of more than 50 local artists, property owners and businesses.) The Aurora ArtWalk was sparked by several concepts: to offer an opportunity for artists to meet other local artists; to showcase Aurora’s open-armed embrace to its burgeoning artist colony; to highlight downtown’s historic venues; and to promote Aurora’s art-friendly business and property owners.
